Cucù House

The project involved the complete renovation of a “historic” single-family home from 1940, located in a central area of the city of Monza, which had remained “quiet and dormant” for more than seventy years, without undergoing any significant changes.

Our clients suddenly realized they were “trapped” in a way of living that no longer reflected them; they no longer recognized that sense of “sanctuary” that every home should offer its residents.

For this reason, we set as our primary goal the design of spaces as different as possible to help forget the “before” and create an “after” that could reflect and meet the personality, needs, and habits of the residents; no easy task in a building with very old structures that are difficult to modify and transform.

Location: Monza. Italy

The main “revolution” in the spaces was the removal of the divisions between the entrance, living room, and kitchen, creating a single large and extremely bright open space with dual exposure to the east and west;

the living area thus became a seamless whole, without interruptions.

From the living room, through a narrow passageway, you reach a room that was created by incorporating what used to be an old, dilapidated garden tool shed into the house.

 This room was designed for listening to music; its main wall is dominated by a custom-designed floor-to-ceiling bookshelf, built to store and catalog vinyl records.

 The light and color, the use of natural materials, the custom-designed furnishings, and the on-demand systems all contributed to finding the right balance between aesthetics and functionality, between beauty and practicality, between surprise and compromise.
